Overview

The Invisorb® Spin Forensic Kit is designed for reproducible purification of genomic and mitochondrial DNA from samples encountered in forensic, human-identity, and biosecurity applications in convenient spin-column format. The isolation procedure is very efficient and purified DNA performs well in downstream analyses, such as quantitative PCR and STR analysis, with high signal-to-noise ratios.

Workflow

The raw material is lysed under adapted sample-specific conditions in an optimized lysis buffer and proteins are degraded using Proteinase K. After lysis the DNA binds to the membrane while contaminants like potent inhibitors and proteins pass through, leaving pure DNA to be eluted in either water or the buffer provided with the kit. The addition of Carrier RNA is necessary for the enhancement of DNA recovery in samples with low nucleic acid concentrations. Carrier RNA also stabilizes nucleic acids in samples with very small nucleic acid concentrations. Due to the high purity, the isolated genomic DNA is ready to use for subsequent downstream applications:

• laser micro dissection PCR (LMD)
